 Three generations of the Kennedy family have farmed Valley East Estate, which is located on Watsons road near Spring Creek, to the East of Wairau Valley.
The Kennedy's are blessed with an excellent site, but hard work and attention to detail in the vineyard have also combined to create wines of distinction.
Valley East Estate currently produces Sauvignon blanc, Pinot noir, and the first vintage of Pinot gris is expected in 2005.
The first bottling Valley East Est Sauvignon blanc in 2002 received no less than 3 Silver medal equivalents. The 2003 wine has a Gold medal from the 2004 Royal Easter Show.
At Valley East Estate the grapes are grown on old raised sand dunes without irrigation. Maturity is often later than the rest of the valley due to the cooling influence of the nearby sea. Because of this the grapes have an extraordinarily long time on the vines. This is reflected with wonderful aroma that leaps from the glass, rich texture, and wines with a long lingering finish.
