Fantail Island Syrah 2010

Fantail Island Vineyard has been managed under the international Biogro organic System since 2009.  This terraced vineyard, from where this Syrah is grown was the first in NZ to use a mix of the highest quality modern French clones and ancient material from the vineyards of Hermitage and St Joseph in the Northern Rhone.   In the European fashion, Fantail Island is planted with a high density of vines to ensure low crops and competition between the vines.

On the nose this wine depicts dark fruits and complex aromas typical of Syrah with lots of berry fruit, spice, black pepper and earthy tones.

The palate has a soft entry with a rich texture of very soft and ripe tannins.   It is a complex wine with abundant well integrated fruit, pepper and oak.   The wine finishes with earthy savory tones and good length.

The 2010 vintage was probably the best vintage seen in the Auckland region for 40 years.  The combination of climate, terraced vineyard, many different clones and intense hand management gave us the opportunity to work with grapes of excellent quality.

The wine will cellar well for many years.

"We needed a space to complete a planning session. We chose Artisan Wines, a peaceful and quiet environment... perfect for our team of eight people. We took breaks when we needed, enjoyed fine food with some special homemade treats, great coffee and at the end of our day if we wanted a wine. A great affordable off site venue."
